Under the authority of the Professional Engineers Act, PEO governs over 85,000 licence and certificate holders and regulates professional engineering in Ontario. PEO’s mission is to regulate and advance the practice of engineering to protect the public interest.
PEO is responsible for the licensing and discipline of engineers and companies providing engineering services in Ontario. As part of its mandate, PEO also establishes, maintains and develops:
- standards of knowledge and skill;
- standards of practice for the profession;
- standards of professional ethics; and
- promotes public awareness of its role.
PEO’s Education Committee (EDU) focuses on pre-university student and educator outreach and curriculum issues involving math, science and technology and administers the Engineer-in-Residence program. It strives to be a leader and value-added influence in the development of education policy, curriculum, and outreach such that high school graduates will have the necessary knowledge, skill, and motivation to succeed in an engineering program.
